What do you do with your tablet?

Posted: 21 Mar 2013 11:32 AM PDT

Portable computing have come such a long way, in fact saying those words makes me sound old already. Laptops used to be the dominant device in this sector but times have changed. Since Steve Jobs kicked off with the first generation Apple iPad in 2010, tablet PCs have grown in popularity exponentially. We now have such a great range of tablets of different sizes, specs and prices to choose from, iPads, Galaxy tablet, Xperia tablet, Kindle tablet, Surface tablet, you're guaranteed to find something that suits your needs. However, tablets in fact go back much earlier than 2010, for example I remember Apple's Newton MessagePad 100 launched back in 1993, 20 years ago, that never took off. But what's made today's tablet so much more popular? The internet and social networking certainly has a lot to do with it, the fact that technology and hardware have improved so much yet still maintaining its affordability for the general public compared to when laptops and PCs were first launched is also another factor. Below is an infographic with some interesting statistics of what we actually use our tablets for. For me personally, I like the fact that its lightweight and portable, making it a highly versatile device. Its also generally less prone to crashing and having some sort of catastrophic event which did happen to me rather frequently as a PC user! My Xperia tablet has got a screen large enough (compared to my smartphone) for me to work with my emails, blogging, time schedule yet not so big that it becomes a burden to carry around. No matter entertainment, gaming or productivity, there's always an array of apps to choose from to suit my needs. I certainly agree with some of the figures in the graphic, generally it seems users tend to use their tablets for entertainment and lifestyle purposes away from home.
