Posted: 20 Mar 2014 09:45 AM PDT

Baby monitors can be useful, but if you don't have money to purchase one, you might be interested in a special app that turns your Android phone into baby monitor.

Dormi is a special app that turns your Android smartphone into transmitter that captures audio while turning other Android device into a receiver. Dormi can work via WiFi Direct or WiFi Hotspot, but it can also work via internet using WiFi or mobile data so you can check on your young one at any time. The transmitter will automatically adjust the microphone sensitivity, and it will play any sound that it detects. Parents can also press a button in order to check for any sounds, and there's also a push-to-talk function as well. In case you're having a call, you can be alerted by vibration if the baby starts crying. As for the battery life, this app consumes about 10 percent of battery life per hour.

Dormi app seems quite useful, and it's compatible with Android 2.3 and newer. The free version of this app works for four hours per month, but unlimited use requires a paid subscription.
