New Apple iMac: 5mm thick and boosted by Ivy Bridge

Apple has recently introduced iPad Mini, but that doesn't mean that they aren't focused on their desktop devices, and speaking of which, Apple has updated iMac line, so let's see what updated iMac can offer to its users.


New iMac is just 5mm thin thanks to the slim aluminum and glass enclosure, and lack of built-in optical drive. There are two models available, 21.5-inch and 27-inch, and they are powered by Intel's Ivy Bridge 3rd gen Core i5 processor that can be upgraded to Core i7, 8GB of RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce graphics ranging from GT640M to GTX 675MX.

New iMac comes with 1TB hard drive, but 27-inch model can be upgraded to 3TB hard drive or use Fusion Drive or 768GB flash storage. As for the Fusion Drive, it combines performance of flash storage and capacity of hard drive, so it combines 128GB of flash with your hard drive, giving you the fast performance and file access.

21.5-inch iMac supports 1920×1080 display resolution while the 27-inch model has a 2560×1440 display, and both of these models offer IPS technology, LED-backlit, Mini DisplayPort output, and both of them are reengineered so they come with 75 percent reduced reflection.

As for connectivity, both models use 4 USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11b/g/n. Additional features include SDXC card slot, stereo speakers, dual microphone, and support for multi display.

New iMacs should be shipped in November and starting price is $1299 or $1799 for 21.5-inch and 27-inch models respectively.

Apple announces iPad mini

Apple has introduced the fourth generation of iPad, and speaking about tablets, Apple has also introduced iPad mini, so let's see what will minified version of iPad offer.



iPad mini is 23% thinner and 53% lighter than the third generation iPad, and it comes with 7.9-inch multitouch IPS touchscreen and 1024×768 resolution.

This tablet also comes with iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, dual-band WiFi, as well as optional 3G and LTE. Speaking of cameras, 5 Megapixel iSight camera features auto focus, face detection, backside illumination sensor, f/2.4 aperture, and Full HD 1080p video recording. As for the 1.2 Megapixel FaceTime camera, it supports BSI sensor, face detection as well as 720p HD video recording.

iPad mini is just 7.2 mm thin, and it weighs 0.68 pounds, and as for the hardware, this tablet is powered by dual-core A5 processor, and just like all the new iOS devices, iPad Mini uses the Lightning connector.

iPad mini is available in black/slate and white/silver color, and iPad mini WiFi costs $329 for 16GB, $429 for 32GB, and $529 for 64GB model. There's also WiFi+cellular model available from AT&T, Sprint and Verizon priced at $459, $559, $659 for 16GB, 32GB, 64GB models respectively. iPad mini WiFi model will be available on November 2nd, while the cellular model will become available few weeks later.
