How to: Crafting a solid LinkedIn page for your business

Facebook and Twitter are the most common social media platforms for businesses. It makes sense because most consumers spend their time on these sites. However, LinkedIn now has more than 200 million members, and, according to Entrepreneur.com, people are now expecting legitimate businesses to have a presence on LinkedIn. If not all businesses, then at least the hipper and higher quality businesses should have a presence there.

Putting together a LinkedIn page for your business does not have to be hard. Most businesses don’t spend much time on their LinkedIn page, assuming that it has limited value. However, B2B Social Media Book reports that LinkedIn is almost 300 percent more effective for visitor to lead generation than other more popular social media venues like Twitter and Facebook. Here are some things to do.

Designate Someone to Update the LinkedIn Page Regularly
Like most social media platforms, your LinkedIn page must be updated with new content on a regular basis. You need to make sure that it’s clear from the beginning whose responsibility this is. If you are a one man business, you may need to hire a virtual assistant to handle this, especially if you can’t do it on your own. Virtual assistants can help you with everything from setting up the LinkedIn page to using website templates to make everything work more efficiently, so try to find someone who can do more than just update your LinkedIn page. This individual should also make sure that the information translates well whether being viewed on a mobile device, an eReader, or a laptop.
Updates should include regular data updates to your About Us page as well as your activities. Company goals should also be updated along with other information that details the qualifications of those involved. As awards and new recognitions come about, have these added to the Linked In page too.

Craft a Brief About Section
The about section should not generally exceed 300 words. You need to find a way that your business achieves its mission while also providing basic information. Focus on one idea and one motivating emotion. From there, you can go on to give all of the details about your business such as your name, address, and email. Try to avoid clichés and generic terms that fade into the background. Be as specific and brief as possible.

Set Up a Specific Banner
While you can choose from a number of different banners on your LinkedIn page, it’s best to avoid the generic ones. These banners do not have the pizzazz or uniqueness that you want. Instead, get a banner that reflects your business in some way. It needs to grab the attention of your customers, and you need to make sure that it draws the viewers in. Your profile picture should be equally intriguing. Make sure that they are in focus.

Add Some Videos
When trying to make your LinkedIn profile stand out for your business, take the time to add some videos. Entrepreneur.com says that this works best in converting visitors to leads because people like videos. Just be sure that they aren’t anything dull. You can use informational videos and entertaining advertisements.
