The best budget headphones under £35

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 03:52 PM PDT

Finding the "best" headphones is usually a personal choice. Whether you like in-ear, wireless, noise-cancelling or cheap-and-cheerful, it depends on what suits you physically and what brands you identify with. We've rounded up a selection of headphones for under £35 for you to take a look at:

SoundMagic is a great place to start looking if you want to upgrade your sound quality, but not ready to dole out a great deal of cash on expensive electronics. The SoundMagic E30 at £27 produces what has been described as "well-balanced and detailed sound… with warmth and bassiness" while they're a solid improvement over the E10, which was popular in 2011.

Consisting of compact, light earpieces that are marked red and blue to indicate the right and left ears, the SoundMagic ear pieces are quirky and functional but not particularly stylish or elegant.

Sennheiser is a great brand that has a really stylish range of headphones that produce gorgeously detailed sound. While buyers can expect to pay £350 for their premium wireless headphones, the entry level Sennheiser EH150 Overhead Headphones come in at an entirely affordable £21 at Tesco.

You can find these new headphones here. The appeal of the EH150 is that they're lightweight, durable and great value for money considering they're an entry level pair of headphones in a model range that's well-respected in the audio-visual world.

JVC is a household name in budget earphones, and there is a variety available for under £35. In particular, the HA FX1X or Xtreme Xplosives earphones, which are priced around £15, are a great bargain and are built to isolate sound in the ear.

Also very sturdy for those times when earphones accidentally get caught in car doors, these are a good option for people who tend to go through their earphones at an impressive rate. These in-ear, ergonomically designed buds are a snug fit so that they hardly protrude from your head while you're wearing them.

It's not easy to select headphones from the variety of good quality stuff that's out there this year. One way to go about it is to set a price range and read reviews on AV forums to get a feeling for other people's opinions. If you can find a consensus on one or two pairs that also match your budget, go to your local supermarket and try them out.
