Posted: 09 Jan 2012 09:30 AM PST

A while ago, boomboxes were rather popular, but now, boomboxes are almost forgotten, but if you're a fan of retro devices, we have a pair of boomboxes that might interest you.

Fab Boombox is a DIY project created by Matt Keeter, a MIT student, as a finial project for one of his classes. According to Matt, this boombox is made from laser cut 0.208" plywood, and it uses nest octahedral prisms as its choice of speakers. Fab Boombox runs on 9V battery, and it has playback controls on top of it. As for the music, Fab Boombox reads and plays music from any standard SD card. We can only say that design of Fab Boombox looks great, but we have no information regarding the sound quality.

Fab Boombox is one interesting retro device, and according to Matt Keeter, you can create your own boombox for less than $100. As for the instructions, Matt has posted them online, so make sure that you check them out.
