Microsoft is bringing back Start Menu to Windows 8.1 Posted: 03 Apr 2014 11:52 PM PDT Windows 8 was a big step away from the classic Windows experience that most users are used to, so it's no wonder that with latest Windows 8 update Microsoft tries to bring back that classic look and feel of Windows. At the Build conference, Microsoft announced that they are bringing back the Start Menu that was missing from Windows 8. The new Start Menu is big as Windows 7 Start Menu, but it has miniature Live Tiles on its side. As for other improvements, you'll be pleased to hear that modern Windows 8 apps now run in desktop environment in their own windows. Of course, if you happen to love the full-screen Start Menu and apps, they will be still around for the users that want them. With this step Microsoft is going back to its roots, and it is giving its users what they want. As for release, we expect to see these additions later this year. [via The Verge]
